Shopping List

So I couldn’t think of any other way to just have a persistent thinger for stuff I was interested in purchasing. Some of this will be “dream machine” type entries which may never ever happen, but otherwise I’ll try to be practical and just include things I’ve been researching lately for eventual purchase. I doubt I’ll do much in the way of categorization, but I will probably include a note indicating a little bit about each item to indicate what level of research I had already done, or what my plans were. On to the goodies…

• Olympus EVOLT E-300 Digital Camera - This would essentially be an upgrade to the current camera, which I would give to my honey for her personal continued use. No hurry on this item, and by the time I do actually decide to purchase, the will probably be a “new hotness” model out there to go after, but at the time of this addition (5/6/05 20:27), this is the one I’d get. Yummy. Oh, it also wants to use these specially designed digital camera lenses, which I’m ok with as well.
• Canon EOS 20D - Aforementioned new hotness
• Snap Server® 4100 - at some point, I’ll make an upgrade to the home network to have a fully RAID enabled NAS device. I actually had a dream about this last night. Someone had just mentioned having ‘made’ one of these using Linux and the standard meta-device drivers that are included with that now. As I was dreaming away, the only downside I could come up with is having to go through the process of creating a volume that was once visible to NFS, Samba, AFS and ftp all wrapped together. Bolt on a web interface for ip address and RAID management, and it seems that unless someone’s already done this and put out a stellar README, I’d be willing to pay the 5% or so markup to have this part taken care of for me. Anyway, this is definitely a FutureItem(tm).
